First some interesting history....
Crochet is an anchient art. Nobody can really pinpoint
the day or year when someone picked up a bone or stick and some yarn and
started knotting chains of fabric into what is now what we call Crochet
. It's origin is obscure, although archeoloical findings do show that Arabia
may have been the original area where wool was first worked with just one
needle or hook. Anchient crochet specimins have been found in Egypt, and
it can be pesumed that the craft is of an age parallel with knitting, it's
sister craft. We know that it does go back at least as far as the days
of Solomon ( around 950 BC), and some biblical historians credit its use
even earlier-1200 BC- when the Israelites fled Egypt during the Exodus.
They were said to have worked with wool in this way during thier long trek
across the Sinai desert. Also crochet and other wool crafts had a profound
place in the philosophy of the time. Creating fabric without any artificial
aid was seen as a declaration of man's kinship with the Eternal g-d. It
was an acknowledgement that he owed his skill and intellect to a greater
being. Exodus 35: 35 to 36:1. (35."He has filled them with the skill
to do all work of the engraver and the designer and embroiderer, in blue
and in purple, in scarlet, and in fine linen, and a weaver, doing any work
and makers of designs. 36:1. "And Betsal'el and Oholiab, and every
wise-hearted man in whom Elohim has given and understanding, to know how
to do all work for the service of the set-apart place, shall do according
to all that He has commanded." )
I have been crocheting, sewing and other needleworks
for over 27 years now.
When I was a child would watch my mother crochet and sew all the time,
and was 10 when she started to teach me this wonderful craft that she learned
from her grandmother. I remember that they would always have some project
that they were working on. As an Adult, I'm always crocheting something
new and love to design different and original crochet items for others
to enjoy. I also sew, bead neklaces and incorperate beads into my crocheted
Prayer shawls, purses and more.
I hope to honor my mother's memory by passing on the the art of crochet,
so I showed my daughter how to crochet. I will teach anyone who wants to
learn, and have helped a few people to get started on thier first projects.
I think that when you are keeping your hands busy you can't get into trouble
(something my mom would say) and it's true. It feels good to complete something
that will be used and hopefully bless the user. I've entered my pieces
into competitions in tha past to see if my work was satifactory, and have
won 2 County Fair Best of Show Awards(2001 & 2003) and 1 California
State Fair Award of Excellence(3rd Place Award) in 10-2001. SoIfeel condident
that purchacing from Blue Purple and Scarlet Designs, you can be sure to
get a quality piece of hand crafted workmanship. You can view and purchace
items from my web site that are not on eBay by just clicking above or on
my favorite links below. I give all credit to our Heavenly Father for the
talent that He has bestowed upon me, and hope to use it for blessings of
others.
Thank You...Blessings and Shalom to all ....
